Chicago Cubs infielder Javier Baez left the game on Friday night after a scary collision in center field with Jason Heyward.
The Chicago Cubs are loaded with position player talent and are in a good position to handle an injury or two. However, an injury is still obviously something that you never want to see.
In the sixth inning on Friday night against the Milwaukee Brewers, Cubs infielder Javier Baez raced out for a blooper in center field and collided with center fielder Jason Heyward. Heyward’s body awkwardly crashed into Baez’ head and the Cubs talented infielder was clearly shaken up. Baez had a quick talk with Joe Maddon and the Cubs’ trainer before leaving the game.
You never want to speculate before knowing too much but a concussion seems possible here. It was a hard collision and Baez’ head took the worst of the blow. He did walk off the field under his own power. That’s obviously a good sign.
Heyward did not appear to be injured on the play and stayed in the game.
Nothing specific about Baez’ injury has been released yet, but the Cubs promise to update us as information becomes available.

We'll update his condition when we know more.
With his incredible defensive play and ridiculous raw power, Javy Baez has become a superstar in the past year. His fantastic play for the Chicago Cubs in the postseason and for Puerto Rico in the World Baseball Classic has gotten him a ton of positive attention.
An elite defender who can play all over the diamond, Baez is an extremely important part of the 2017 Cubs. Losing him for any length of time would hurt. That being said, the most important thing here is that Baez is not seriously injured for his own well-being.

Left eye contusion for Baez. Hard to say for sure, but it could have been a lot worse.
