Chicago White Sox: Jose Quintana Price is Only Going Up
The more times Chicago White Sox ace pitcher Jose Quintana takes the mound, the more he is going to cost in a trade.
The Chicago White Sox did a fantastic job of getting proper value in trades for Chris Sale and Adam Eaton this offseason. The additions of top prospects like Yoan Moncada, Lucas Giolito, Michael Kopech and Reynaldo Lopez jump-started a much-needed rebuild for the South Siders.
The White Sox now have one of the best collections of prospect talent in baseball but they are still in a position to add to their stock.
The Chicago White Sox figure to be aggressive sellers this season with closer David Robertson and third baseman Todd Frazier being obvious candidates to be moved. However, the big name in White Sox trade rumors is starting pitcher Jose Quintana.
After the Sale trade, Quintana is the obvious ace pitcher of the White Sox’ staff. He has been incredibly consistent in recent years, pitching over 200 in each of the last four seasons and never having an ERA over 3.51. Last season, Quintana pitched 208 innings and posted a 3.20 ERA while striking out 181 and only walking 50.

Quintana’s numbers are extremely similar over the last four seasons. At this point, he is what he is. A legitimate all-star level ace pitcher. He does not have overwhelming stuff but Quintana clearly knows how to get batters out and he has the track record to back it up.
Quintana already has an extremely high value on the trade market, but it has only gone up in the past month. First, he absolutely dominated a loaded United States lineup in the World Baseball Classic. In a lineup filled with stars, Quintana pitched 5.2 innings of no-hit ball. He was absolutely incredible on the big stage.
Albeit on a much smaller stage, Quintana was just as dominant in his Spring Training start for the White Sox against the Cincinnati Reds on Thursday. The White Sox’ ace threw a brilliant 5.2 innings again, but this time, instead of only having a no-hitter, Quintana was working on a perfect game. This guy is absolutely incredible.

At this point, the only thing that could drive the price down on a Quintana trade would be an injury. As long as he stays healthy, Quintana will continue to dominate major league lineups, only driving up the price to acquire him in a trade.
