Chicago Bears Rumors: Team “most likely” will agree to deal with Mike Glennon

As the legal tampering window remains open for 2017 NFL Free Agency, a report on Wednesday morning indicated the the Chicago Bears most likely will sign free agent quarterback Mike Glennon.

Resolution could be coming on Wednesday in regards to the Chicago Bears rumors involving free agent quarterback Mike Glennon.

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported on “Good Morning Football” on Wednesday morning that the Bears and Glennon will most likely agree to a deal worth $14 million-$15 million per season.

Since the rumors between the Bears and Glennon escalated at the start of the week, many have tried to make sense of connection. While the overwhelming belief is that the Bears should stay away from Glennon, the plan may be for the Bears to sign Glennon and then draft their long-term quarterback early in the 2017 NFL Draft.

It would be a strategy that NFL teams have implemented before. Prior to the 2012 season, the Seattle Seahawks signed Green Bay Packers backup quarterback Matt Flynn to a lucrative contract and drafted Russell Wilson in the third round of the NFL Draft that off-season. Wilson outplayed Flynn from the jump and that resulted in Seahawks opting to start the rookie over the veteran.

If the Bears are going to sign Glennon and then draft a quarterback early in the 2017 NFL Draft, they need to be capable of making the same decision that the Seahawks did. Meaning, if Glennon is struggling and being outplayed by the rookie quarterback, the team can not be afraid to admit that the signing was a mistake and the hand the reigns of the offense to the rookie quarterback.

Mike Glennon is still not a terrific answer for the Chicago Bears at the quarterback position in 2017 but it would be acceptable as long as the team follows the approach the Seattle Seahawks had in 2012.
