Recent Chicago Bears rumors have the team showing interest in free agent wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson.

Most of the attention in the early part of the “legal tampering” period for the Chicago Bears has been spent on quarterback Mike Glennon. The Bears are clearly interested in Glennon to be their next starting quarterback. Let’s just say, I hope that doesn’t happen.

While there is plenty to talk about in regards to Glennon, let’s turn our attention to another Chicago Bears rumor, connecting the Bears to former Minnesota Vikings receiver Cordarrelle Patterson.

With Alshon Jeffery hitting the open market, the Chicago Bears could obviously use some help at wide receiver. However, Cordarrelle Patterson was not exactly what I was expecting.

More from Chicago Bears

Patterson is a freakishly talented receiver who was a first-round selection (29th overall) by the Vikings in the 2013 NFL Draft. Patterson entered the league with a ton of hype but has never really been able to put it all together. He is a bigger receiver who has ridiculous speed and athleticism, but Patterson has struggled with consistency throughout his career.

While Patterson has yet to reach his full potential, he is one of the best kick returners in the NFL. Patterson has elite-level speed and it shows on each and every kick return. He is a dynamic threat back there. In fact, Patterson was named to the Pro Bowl and a second-team All-Pro last season because of his work in the return game.

As far as a price point for Patterson, Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports expects him to exceed $4 million per year on the open market.

The $4-$5 million range seems about right for Patterson. He is an elite-level return guy who still has massive offensive potential.

If the price does not get too much higher, the Chicago Bears would be wise to be involved. Patterson would be a nice grab at upside in free agency. Plus, he is only 25-years-old.
