Chicago Bears 2017 free agency: Players they should target

The free agency frenzy is almost upon us. With deep pockets and many needs, the Chicago Bears need to attack it and look at these players.

With the Super Bowl a distant memory now, our attention turns to the offseason. Over the past weeks since the big game was played, every team, including the Chicago Bears, have had much speculation on moves made or to be made.

Since their last Super Bowl appearance in the 2006 season, the Bears played in just two playoff games, winning one of them. Both those games came in the 2010 season. This is unacceptable to Chicago Bears fans, who pine for the “Monsters of the Midway” of old.

The Bears hit the free agency period on Thursday with deep pockets and many holes to fill. Yes, they need to use the draft to get back to winning on a consistent basis, but what they do in free agency sets up what they do in the draft. Therefore, in order to set up a good draft, they need good free agent signings.

There will be many good, young and athletic players hitting free agency. There are several reasons why another team lets go of good players — too expensive to keep, new coaching staff and/or front office, salary cap issues, etc. One team’s misfortune turns out to be another’s playoff run.
