Alabama cornerback Marlon Humphrey is up next as we continue to look at 2017 NFL Draft targets for the Chicago Bears.

The Chicago Bears are going to be an interesting team to watch during the 2017 NFL Draft. They have a lot of draft capital to work with and must make moves to significantly help the team now and going forward.

We at Da Windy City are taking a look at a possible Bears’ draft target every day. Up next is Alabama cornerback Marlon Humphrey.

Defensive back is a massive need for the Bears this off season. They have little to speak of at either the cornerback or safety position. If they expect to have a better defense in 2017, their situation in the secondary must be greatly improved.

With that in mind, I expect the Bears to target many defensive backs in the 2017 NFL Draft. Humphrey could easily be among them.

Humphrey is an extremely athletic cornerback who has elite upside at the next level. He is a former track star whose speed and athleticism translates well to the football field. Humphrey has elite-level speed on the outside and an incredible vertical leap. He has the skills to be a dependable deep defender and be elite in jump-ball situations.

The Alabama product also shows fantastic natural coverage skills. Humphrey is great in press, off-man and zone coverage. He is an instinctive football player who commonly puts himself in the best position to make a play.

Humphrey is an incredibly talented football player who has massive upside at the next level. However, he is not a perfect prospect. Humphrey’s ball skills are a major concern.

He had trouble tracking the ball in college, constantly getting mixed up on the deep ball. Humphrey also struggled to create turnovers.

He has all of the ability in the world, but Humphrey’s lack of ball skills are a concern.

Even with that being the case, Humphrey has massive upside at the next level. Cornerback is one of the most important positions in the NFL and Humphrey has the skills to be among the best. Will the Chicago Bears be the team who takes the risk? With cornerback being such an obvious need, I would not be shocked if that ends up being the case.

Humphrey will not be an option for the Bears with the third overall pick. However, if they trade down to the middle of the first round, he may be under consideration. Also, Humphrey’s ball skills may cause him to slip out of the first round completely. If that happens, expect him to be high on the Bears’ list with their early second round selection.
