The NBA Trade Deadline is Thursday and rumors have circled around Chicago Bulls all-star Jimmy Butler.

The latest NBA trade rumors suggest that the Bulls and Boston Celtics may come together on a trade involving Butler. From Butler’s perspective, the all-star hopes to remain with the Bulls beyond the NBA Trade Deadline on Thursday.

“Hopefully I’m not going to get traded but I don’t know. I don’t control that. Control what I can control, like going on vacation.”

The week of the NBA Trade Deadline often gets crazy. The craziness has already started as the Sacramento Kings traded all-star DeMarcus Cousins to the New Orleans Pelicans late Sunday night. Like Butler, Cousins had the desire to remain with his current team but the Kings felt that Pelicans’ offer was too good to pass up.

Fortunately for the Bulls, the Kings provided the blueprint for what not to do at the NBA Trade Deadline. Like Butler, Cousins has been at the center of NBA trade rumors for much of the past two seasons. The Kings felt like now was the time to cash in on those rumors. The issue is that Kings’ deal with the Pelicans gave the impression that Sacramento was obliged to make a deal. The Kings could have gotten a much better offer for Cousins had they played the market.

The Bulls need to play the market for Bulls. What the Bulls shouldn’t do is trade Butler for the mere purpose of making a trade like the Kings did with Cousins. In fact, the Bulls could use Butler’s desire to remain in Chicago as a ploy to drive up their asking price.
