Chicago Blackhawks: Alex DeBrincat a Future Star in the Making?
Alex DeBrincat is an American born hockey player in the Chicago Blackhawks farm system currently playing for the Erie Otters of the OHL.
Alex DeBrincat was drafted #39 overall in the 2016 NHL Draft by the Chicago Blackhawks. He is currently 19 years old and playing in the Ontario Hockey League(OHL) for the Erie Otters. DeBrincat is a Right Winger who has a lot of hype and potential as a minor league player.
DeBrincat has been playing for the Otters since the 2014-15 season and has recorded over 100 points in his first 2 full seasons, and is well on his way to hitting the 100pt mark again this season.

During his rookie season with the Otters he recorded 104pts and captured the CHL Rookie of the Year award.
He also recorded many other records for a rookie, OHL most assists by a rookie(53), OHL most goals by a rookie(51) and most points by a rookie(104).
Many scouts discredited what DeBrincat brought to the ice with the Otters stating that he was a product of being on the same line as now NHL star Connor McDavid.
After McDavid came to the NHL many thought DeBrincat would struggle and not produce like he did his first to seasons.
Turns out they were wrong, after being named an Assistant captain by his teammates for the 2016-17 season DeBrincat has not looked back.
He currently leads the OHL in points with 92 through 45 games. DeBrincat is currently on a 9 game scoring streak and has 23 total points over the 9 game scoring streak.
DeBrincat needed to shine this season to show scouts he wasn’t a product of playing with McDavid. With 92 points through 45 id say he is proving everyone wrong and needs to continue to play with this chip on his shoulder.
Look for DeBrincat to potentially work his way up the Blackhawks minor league system the next couple months and be given a shot at making the NHL come the 2017-18 season.

Two days before the 2016 NHL Draft the Chicago Blackhawks made a trade with the Montreal Canadians that left a lot of Blackhawk fans in confusion. The Blackhawks sent fan favorite Andrew Shaw to Montreal for the number 39 and 45th picks overall.
The Blackhawks were not expecting a player like DeBrincat to fall to them with the 39th pick. When he did, they had no choice but to pounce on the opportunity to take him.
DeBrincat was picked by most to be a middle to late first rounder. But teams kept passing on him, why? Only those teams will know for sure, but some reports state that it was because of his size(5’7″), and his play for the United States junior team during the World Juniors, where he didn’t play his best hockey.
DeBrincat still has a long road before he hits the NHL. Don’t count out the possibility of seeing him wearing the Blackhawks sweater in the near future. The kid is filled with talent and would fit right in on an explosive offense like the Blackhawks.

One thing is for sure the Blackhawks wont rush him to the NHL so you can expect to see a player in his finest form when he gets a chance to play for the Blackhawks.
