What started so promising for the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday left us wanting more as they fell to the Winnipeg Jets by a final score of 3-1.

The Hawks scored the first goal of the game early, but never found the net again and surrendered three unanswered thereafter.

The Jets welcomed the Hawks to Winnipeg at the perfect time for them, as they came into the game riding a three-game losing streak and desperately hanging onto sixth place in the Western Conference.

Needing a win more than ever, they had the luxury of a home game and an inferior opponent. They now are back on track as they await the incoming Carolina Hurricanes on Monday night.

The Blackhawks did not have any expectations to make a run of any kind this year, which is a good thing because they are far from that point. The Hawks now sit with a 7-15-0 record as the calendar has officially turned to December.

They have yet to win consecutive games this year and have now lost consecutive games for the ninth time.

The losses may be piling up in 2023 heading into 2024, but the Hawks are in the midst of a year that the overall record is not a reflection of the team to come. It’s important to remember this is still a young team that is learning and developing into one that can contend in the years to follow.

As the Hawks prepare for another game Sunday against the Wild in Minnesota, the takeaways from Saturday’s loss have to be looked at with the future in mind.
