The Chicago Bulls have a decision to make on Jimmy Butler and that could lead to a trade before the February 23 NBA Trade Deadline.

The Chicago Bulls are 24-25 on the season and are currently the 7th seed in the NBA Eastern Conference.

Though, the Bulls are beginning a difficult six-game road trip tonight with a game against the Oklahoma City Thunder. There is a chance the six-game road trip the Bulls are beginning tonight will either make or break their season. After the drama that has occurred over the past week, the impression is that the Bulls’ season is on the verge of collapsing.

If the Bulls’ season does collapse, the team may look to trade All-Star Jimmy Butler. K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune reports that the Bulls and Boston Celtics may restart their trade discussions involving Butler.

"There are rival executives who believe the Bulls and Celtics will rekindle trade talks centered on Jimmy Butler before the Feb. 23 deadline. The teams held serious talks in June, and the Celtics own the same assets — Jae Crowder, Marcus Smart, the Nets’ first-round picks in 2017 and 2018 — the teams discussed then."

Regardless of what happens during the Bulls’ six-game road trip, trading Butler would be a mistake.

Butler is exactly the type of a player that the Bulls should be building. In addition, trading Butler would make this past off-season null and void. Once the Bulls signed Dwyane Wade, the direction of the team was somewhat clear. The Bulls were going to build around Butler and then use Wade to lure a superstar free agent to Chicago this summer.

If the Bulls trade Butler, there is no way that Wade will remain with the team after this summer. With no Butler and no Wade, it won’t matter how much available resources the Bulls have because no superstar player will want to play for the organization.
