Dwyane Wade concerned about Chicago Bulls’ future
Chicago Bulls guard Dwyane Wade is concerned about the future direction of the team.
Chicago Bulls guard Dwyane Wade could become a free agent at the end of this season if he decides to opt out of the two-year, $48 million contract that he signed with the team this past off-season.
With the exception of objecting to the potential idea of the Bulls trading All-Star Jimmy Butler, Wade has been mum on his future with the Bulls. Until now.

While speaking with reporters on Tuesday, Wade admitted that the Bulls’ struggles this season have him concerned about the future and that could impact his decision this off-season.
“I wouldn’t lie to you and say no,” Wade said. “Of course. I can’t play this game forever. I just turned 35 and I have a number in my head how long I want to play. At the end of the day you want to be in a situation where it’s a competitor situation, whatever the case may be. It’s tough in this league as well because a lot of that also depends on how much money you’re willing to make. It depends on what city you’re willing to be in. So it’s a lot of variables to that, but no question about it, what happens throughout this year, as I go into my summer, I’ll definitely take a look at it. I take my career seriously and where I am and where I want to be. And I will do the same thing this summer.”
There is no question that the Bulls have a decision to make this summer. The decision is either rebuild and start over or plan to contend and build around the superstar that is Butler and the veteran that is Wade.
If the Bulls decide to rebuild, then it seems all but certain that they would look to trade Butler and let Wade walk via free agency. But, at this point, that is no longer the logical thing for the Bulls to do.
The Bulls have the financial resources available to be a legitimate player in free agency this season. With that in mind, the Bulls need to fully invest in Butler as their franchise player and do everything in their power to make sure Wade stays. Wade may not be the same player that he once was on the court but there is no question that he is changing the stigma that plagued the Bulls’ organization for the past decade. With Wade as their recruiter, the Bulls could lure in a big-name free agent such as Blake Griffin.

Mediocrity or not, Dwyane Wade remains a very important piece to the Chicago Bulls’ long-term puzzle.
