The Chicago Bulls surprised many by signing superstar Dwyane Wade. Now they need to surprise them again by trading him at the trading deadline.

The Chicago Bulls pulled off what many thought to be the most shocking signing in the NBA offseason by signing superstar Dwyane Wade. As a result of Wade feeling disrespected by the Miami Heat, he looked elsewhere. The Bulls swooped in and Wade decided to go home.

The “Dwyane Wade coming home” storyline is nice and all, but he isn’t bringing titles or wins with him. The Bulls are basically the same team as last season, among the few teams fighting for the last playoff spot in a weak Eastern Conference.

Wade signed a two-year, $47 million contract. The second year is a player option, so he has control. He just turned 35 years old, so I don’t see many teams jumping at the chance to sign him to a contract bigger than $23.5 million.

Because of that, the Bulls need to be proactive. They aren’t in a position to pay a man past his prime elite money. Usually, that is saved for players’ long-term service to one team. The Heat could be excused for doing that, but even they decided not to do that.

The Chicago Bulls need to trade Dwyane Wade.

Whether they say it or not, and whether we like it or not, the Bulls are in rebuild mode. The roster they have is not one of a team that is anywhere close to contending. The point guards they have are no better than backups, the forwards, other than Taj Gibson (and he should go also) and Jimmy Butler (the team’s only true star), don’t contribute much. The “shooters” are too streaky (and most of the streaks are cold ones), and I won’t even talk about the centers.

Wade can help any contending team. Yes, his shooting isn’t great, but he’s never been a great outside shooter. He is a guy who drives to the basket and creates points. A team with shooters helps him drive the lane, where he can take it to the basket.

The Bulls have no consistent shooters, so as a result teams can clog the lanes. Wade won’t make them honest with his shooting, so he struggles.

The Bulls need to move pieces so they can acquire draft picks or cap space. They are a mediocre team with NO CAP SPACE. That is a bad combination to have. Trading Dwyane Wade goes a long way to remedy that situation.
