The Chicago Bulls may already be experiencing buyer’s remorse with veteran point guard Rajon Rondo.

In the off-season, the most head scratching move that the Chicago Bulls made was signing veteran point guard Rajon Rondo to a free-agent contract.

The move was sold to the fan-base as Rondo being a veteran at the point guard position for the Bulls and looking to turn his career around after turbulent stops with the Dallas Mavericks and Sacramento Kings. But, in reality, many questioned whether Rondo would be able to co-exist with Bulls’ head coach Fred Hoiberg. After all, Rondo has had an issue with every coach that he has played for in the NBA.

More from Chicago Bulls

The Bulls are not even at the halfway point of the 2016-2017 NBA regular season and there are already significant issues between Hoiberg and Rondo. Hoiberg has benched Rondo for the Bulls’ past two games. Rondo spoke with Bulls’ general manager Gar Forman about the benching this past Sunday and no definitive decision was made regarding his future with the team.

Rondo has struggled this season with the Bulls as his field goal percentage of 36.9 is the lowest of his career. With that in mind, it should come as no surprise that Rondo’s average of 7.2 points per game is the second lowest mark of his career. With Rondo only averaging 7.1 assists per game, there certainly has been reason for Hoiberg to bench the veteran point guard.

But, what are Hoiberg’s intentions with the benching of Rondo?

Has Hoiberg given up on Rondo? The idea of Hoiberg giving up on Rondo this early in the season may be off-base. What Hoiberg may be attempting to do with Rondo is ignite him to return to his career averages. It’s possible that Hoiberg wanted to give Rondo a few games off to clear his head.

If that is the case, expect Rondo to return to the rotation on Wednesday when the Bulls play the Cleveland Cavaliers. If that is not the case, then perhaps Rajon Rondo is not long for the Chicago Bulls.
