Nick Martin, Center/Guard (6-foot-4, 302 pounds) — Notre Dame

Will Montgomery did a good job at center before an injury ended his season. He will be a free agent, however, and being a 33-year-old recovering from a serious injury does not bode well for him re-signing.

The Chicago Bears will be in need of a center. I don’t think Hroniss Grasu is ready to start at center. He may end up being a fine rotational lineman, but to envision him as a key cog of the unit would be a stretch now.

Martin can step right up and take over at center. If the Bears decide to pick up a veteran center instead, Martin can provide backup at center, and can move over to guard.

Martin has good size for his position and he can maul the defender. He is quick off the snap and uses sound technique. He has good balance so he can absorb a hit well.

Martin has the leadership skills to step in and take command. He was a two-year captain with the Fighting Irish. His experience at both center and guard can add versatility to the line, given the many injuries they have experienced in the past few seasons.

Martin is expected to go anywhere between the second to fourth round.

I like Martin’s nasty streak as well. He will do everything he can to protect his backfield, and he will not back down to anyone. He is expected to go anywhere between the second to fourth round. He would be a natural bear in Chicago.
