Dowell Loggains

What better way is there to replace Adam Gase than to keep continuity and promote his assistant?

Dowell Loggains is the current Chicago Bears quarterbacks coach. Like Gase, Loggains earned the respect from Jay Cutler, who enjoyed working with both men.

Cutler has known Loggains for years, and lobbied for him to be hired back in 2012. Cutler would love for Loggains to be the next Chicago Bears offensive coordinator.

"I think Adam would testify to it that he’s been a large help to me and him both. He’s extremely talented, bright, has a lot of energy as well, has been around quarterbacks for a long time, played the position in high school. Has been around really good coaches his entire career, been blessed in that regard. He’s a sponge. He took all the good stuff from all the coaches. I’m not saying that he doesn’t make his mistakes because we all do. But he’s done a really good job of managing our room, from the three quarterbacks to me, and he works well with the rest of the coaches developing the plan."

Loggains would basically keep Gase’s system intact, with some tweaks. Fox would be comfortable with Loggains, seeing how well he worked this season.

Loggains does have experience as a coordinator, doing the job with Tennessee for the final five games of the 2012 season and the entire 2013 season. Working the last two seasons with Johnny Manziel and Jay Cutler, you know he is patient enough to deal with just about anything.

Having Loggains promoted would keep Cutler from rocking the boat. Gase’s system is good, and if Loggains can keep it up, it will be beneficial not only for Cutler, but also whoever may replace him, should the Bears part ways with the quarterback.

Of course, the Chicago Bears could also just throw money at the problem and give Gase a pay raise. They could bribe him to stay with the team until Fox leaves, and have him take over as coach.

That seems like an unrealistic scenario, however. Assistants need to strike will the iron is hot. You never know what may happen between now and when Fox leaves, and Gase may not be as popular then as he is now.  You cannot rule that out, though, as popular as Gase is with Chicago Bears Nation, and the success he’s had thus far.
