Phillip Dorsett, University of Miami, FL
Phillip Dorsett impressed in the NFL Combine with his great speed. He ran a 4.33-40. He has the ability to turn on the after burners and blow past defenders. He is a combination of Maclin and Smith, at a lower cost.
Dorsett can also help on special teams, another area where the Bears have huge hole.
Dorsett can be put in the slot and he can cause all types of damage. There are a variety of routes he can run that can get him open, and in the open field NO ONE will catch him.
The knock on Dorsett is his size. He is just 5-foot-10, so some scouts are concerned with that. He did not have much trouble in Miami going after the ball and you don’t need size to blow past people.
In 2014, Dorsett had 36 catches for 871 yards and 10 touchdowns. He averaged an incredible 24.2 yards per catch.
Miami has a history of great players, but with their recent streak of tough seasons, many see a drop. The truth of the matter, however, is that this new breed of Miami players tend to play better at the pro level, with better coaching, than what they did in college.
In 2014, Greg Olsen, Sam Shields, Calais Campbell, Devin Hester and Jimmy Graham all went to the Pro Bowl. The university may have trouble with its coaching, but they certainly have talent, and Phillip Dorsett will be another one of the fine players who claim to be from the “U”.
