The Crosstown Classic has come to a close once again in the windy city, and in true historical fashion, the series came to a dramatic, extra innings conclusion. Despite entering the series as underdogs, the White Sox managed to put together two spectacular wins over the Chicago Cubs, with the latter finishing with an Edgar Quero walk off home run after the Cubs took the lead in the top of the 10th.
The series never truly felt comfortable for either side after game 1. The Cubs were unable to find their footing, and the offense never really got its wheels off the ground. After the White Sox spanked the Cubs in game two, it all came down to the final game. With the lead changing left and right, by the time the end of regulation rolled around, both fan bases had seen their share of highs and lows.

Michael Conforto immediately understood the intensity of the Crosstown Classic
"Yeah, I mean, absolutely electric out there. You know, really the whole series was really, really fun. The atmosphere was there, it felt like, you know, playoff atmosphere."Michael Conforto
As a first time member of the old Chicago rivalry, many players find themselves ensconced in a competitive space that's typically unexpected in May. But regardless of time of the year, regardless of whether each team is good or bad, when the Cubs and White Sox play, it very quickly becomes a battle of wills.
This year's series felt a bit different, though. No matter what team was in the lead, no matter what inning it was, the whole series felt like it was a single swing away from calamity. This series felt like a battle of baseball magnates, a return to competitive Chicago baseball. Its been many years since both Chicago baseball teams have been contending at the same time.
The Crosstown Classic delivered exactly the kind of chaos Chicago baseball is supposed to have. Tight games, extra innings, loud crowds, and constant momentum swings turned this series into one of the most entertaining weekends either side has played in years.
