White Sox catcher Edgar Quero comes out of nowhere to stun Cubs with walk-off homer

Quero entered Sunday with just two hits in May before delivering the biggest swing of the Crosstown Classic.

Edgar Quero didn't appear in the first two games of the Crosstown Classic, but he made sure his impact was felt as soon as his name hit the lineup. He was integral to the White Sox overtaking the Cubs in a dramatic walk off home run from Quero. Quero went three for five during Sunday's outing, knocking in three and scoring twice himself. Prior to his appearance against their north side rivals, Quero had only logged two hits in all of May.

Quero has been struggling at the plate in the early stages of this season, and it's all the more reason to be impressed with his performance against the Cubs. Quero wasn't expected to be the hero, but perhaps this game was the catalyst that he'll need to get his bat going for the season.

Tristan Peters kept the White Sox alive

Quero wasn't the only one who entered the game without a home run on the season, but Tristan Peters delivered his first in the bottom of the eighth to drive in three and take the lead. The fact that the Cubs came back from that to tie it up and drive the game into extra innings is a testament to the playoff-like environment that the two Chicago baseball teams have been entwined in.

Peters hasn't been struggling at the plate the way Quero has, but one could make the argument that this was Peters' biggest swing of the season so far. That single swing shifted the entire game and therefore, the entire series.

With the Cubs bouncing back and pushing the game into extra innings, the White Sox needed to find their momentum again, a difficult task considering the Cubs had managed to score a leading run in the top of the 10th. But it was the resilience of the White Sox that won them this series.

The White Sox entered this series as underdogs against a hot Cubs team with one of the best records in baseball. The south siders showed that in spite of their pitching issues, they still managed to walk away with a series victory because unexpected contributors stepped up in the biggest moments. But none of it would have been possible if it hadn't been for the whole team to contribute anywhere they could.
