Chicago Bears: 5 trade packages to explore with needy teams
By Ryan Heckman
Right about now is the time where you start to wonder whether or not the Chicago Bears will engage in trade talks.
If you were to tell me just three short (or long, depending on how you look at it) years ago that the Chicago Bears would boast one of the deeper rosters in all of football, I probably would have laughed at you.
Up to that point, the jury was still out on general manager Ryan Pace. Not to mention, then-head coach John Fox was running one of the most predictable game plans the league had seen. There was no chance I would have agreed that in a matter of 36 months, the Bears would be amongst the NFC’s elite.
But, that’s the beauty of sports. Things can change drastically, and quickly. Pace has done an incredible job assembling this roster, and now, the Bears are staring a Super Bowl window square in the eyes.
Throughout the 2019 edition of training camp, Bears fans saw a lot of young guys come alive. They saw tons of competition at key positions — positions which may be a weakness for fellow NFL franchises.
The Bears’ roster isn’t perfect, but it certainly has a few names which could interest on the trade market. At this point in the preseason, Pace should start making a few phone calls; dropping some names to see if he gets any nibbles.
There are other teams out there which have some holes. Those holes could be due to injuries, holdouts, drama — heck, maybe all three in one way or another (we’ll get there).
Which teams could bite on a potential trade with Pace and company? Just for fun, let’s look at five scenarios I have put together.
