The Chicago Bears are the single worst team in the NFL according to a recent batch of NFL power rankings.

Most believe that the Chicago Bears had a poor offseason. The free agent addition of quarterback Mike Glennon paired with the trade up to the second overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft for quarterback Mitch Trubisky simply does not make sense in the minds of most people.

It may not have been the path I would have chosen but I kind of like what the Chicago Bears did this offseason. Glennon is an unproven backup who does not provide a lot of excitement at the position but the three-year, $45 million contract he signed is completely misleading. The Bears are only stuck with Glennon for one season and are only guaranteed to pay him $18.5 million.

If Glennon is only around for one season and Trubisky takes over as the long-term franchise quarterback in 2018, there is nothing wrong with the moves the Bears made. But people are acting like these series of moves have set the franchise back dozens of years.

More from Chicago Bears

Dan Parzych of NFL SpinZone recently put together his own complete list of NFL power rankings. It is probably too early to worry about stuff like this but Parzych putting the Bears all the way down at the bottom at number 32 rubbed me the wrong way.

And you guessed it, his poor ranking of the Chicago Bears had a lot to do with their quarterback moves this offseason.

"When looking at all of the other areas Chicago could have used their first-round pick on, why on earth would they select another quarterback after spending all of that money on Glennon? Using this high of a pick on the former North Carolina quarterback seemed like a slap to the face for Glennon, even if the team continues to claim the job is his heading into 2017."

Again, Glennon is nothing more than a stop-gap option. He is only around to make sure the Bears do not have to force Trubisky into action before he is ready. Mitch Trubisky is the future at the quarterback position for the Chicago Bears and clearly the most important player for the franchise on the roster. Glennon is the starting quarterback for 2017. That’s it.

I am not saying that the Bears should be put high on any list of NFL power rankings. Their 3-13 record from 2016 speaks for itself. That being said, they are not the worst team in the league by any stretch of the imagination.

The Bears struggled mightily with injuries last season and lost a lot of close games. A simply minor change of luck should give them at least two or three more wins than last season. Plus, the under the radar moves that the Bears made in free agency will help this team. Defensive backs Quintin Demps, Marcus Cooper and Prince Amukamara should drastically help their secondary.

The Bears already have a strong defensive front seven. If the new additions to the secondary work out, the Bears could easily have a top ten defense in the NFL.

The offense is undoubtedly a major question mark but Jordan Howard has a chance to be a star at the running back position. Plus, none of us really know what to expect out of Glennon getting his first full-time opportunity.

Next: Will Bears be surprise NFL team of 2017?

In no way do I think that the Chicago Bears are going to be a good football team in 2017. They will probably finish in last place in the NFC North for the fourth consecutive season. However, they are not the worst team in the NFL. This Bears’ squad has some talent and they will compete in a majority of their games next season. They won’t be good but let’s not count them out of being respectable just yet.
