The Chicago Bears struggled mightily over the past three seasons. One person, however, feels if they get contributions from returning injured players and their quarterbacks, they could be the surprise team in the NFL in 2017.

The 2017 offseason has been volatile for the Chicago Bears. They missed out on some big free agent names and went after a quarterback not many people think could be the face of a franchise. Then, in the draft, they make some curious moves. They move up one spot in the first round to draft another quarterback, giving up some critical draft choices. Also, they spent 60 percent of their picks on players from non-FBS schools, and they don’t go after secondary help in a draft deep in secondary players.

Also, they spent 60 percent of their picks on players from non-FBS schools, and they don’t go after secondary help in a draft deep in secondary players.

Because of those moves, the mood for many Bears fans turned blue. Many experts in the NFL also criticized the Bears front office. As fellow Da Windy City writer Dan Schmelzer wrote recently, some consider Chicago’s front office as the worst in the NFL.

Well, there are some positive thoughts out there.

Peter King of Monday Morning Quarterback ranks the Bears 28th in the NFL. No, that isn’t good. He says something interesting, however. When asked about which team in the bottom five could surprise people in 2017, King mentioned the Bears (see video here).

"I think the Bears are an interesting team, because if either Mike Glennon or Mitchell Trubisky plays at a Top-15 level, you know, they’re not a bad team and at times they played very well… I wouldn’t be shocked, you know, if the Bears turned it around."

It’s very good to hear some positive words about the Bears after it became fashionable to bash them. When looking at some of the Bears’ game film from last season, King is correct saying they played well at times. There were some games in which they had late leads they ultimately blew. A big part of that was because of the number of injuries suffered. The secondary had some unsigned free agent rookies STARTING GAMES for them.

If Glennon or Trubisky can play at just an average level, the Bears could finish with eight wins. If they play better, and the returning injured players do their jobs, then the Chicago Bears could be well on their way to being respectable again.
