Chicago Bears cornerback Deiondre’ Hall found himself arrested over the weekend after allegedly getting involved in a fight with a bar patron and scuffle with police. Does this situation affect how the team moves forward in the draft?

Over the weekend, Chicago Bears cornerback Deiondre’ Hall found himself in a bad situation. He allegedly got into a fight at an Iowa bar. According to a police affidavit, Hall didn’t respond to police instructions and spit on the officers. Police cited Hall with disorderly conduct, public intoxication, and interfering with official acts. In order to get him into the squad car, police had to use a Taser on Hall’s legs.

Hall was the Bears’ fourth-round pick (127th overall) in last year’s draft. He missed half the season due to an injury (as did almost everyone else on the cornerback unit), but when he played he showed promise. The Bears had high hopes for him to put in major playing time in the cornerback rotation.

The Bears have yet to address the arrest. Does this arrest affect what the Bears do going forward?

Yes, I know that in the NFL, if a player can help a team, a lot can be forgiven. There are plenty of women beaters, drug addicts, and other felons playing in the league, but this is a staid team that doesn’t stand for anyone embarrassing the team.

Just after the 2014 season, Tim Jennings got arrested for drunk driving. Over the previous four seasons, he recorded 15 interceptions, tops in the NFL over that period. The Bears eventually cut him.

The Bears did take a chance on Ray McDonald in 2015 after he had domestic violence issues. That move blew up in the front office’s face when the domestic violence issue resurfaced shortly after he signed.

I don’t think the Bears want to go through that again.

At this point of time, the free agent market for corners is thin. If the Bears do want to rid themselves of Hall, they may look for a trade, but if teams know they want to just get rid of him, they’ll wait until the Bears eventually need to just cut him.

Many already felt that they would draft a corner in this draft. This class is chock full of quality corners. If general manager Ryan Pace decides to cut Hall, would they go after an additional cornerback?

Add the fact that Hall is accused of disrespecting police officers, and this gets complicated. We see what happened to Colin Kaepernick when he just took a knee to protest police brutality. What happens to a player accused of being on the other end of the brutal act?

As much as many want to just put this off as just a minor incident that isn’t a true indicator of Hall’s character, people are watching what happens in the NFL. While Kaepernick may not be in the league anymore, those same people who bashed him may find another target in Hall. Will the Chicago Bears want to deal with that?
