The legal tampering window for 2017 NFL Free Agency opens today at 11:00 a.m. CT and the Chicago Bears are expected to make a major push for free agent quarterback Mike Glennon.

The connections between the Chicago Bears and free agent quarterback Mike Glennon will not go away.

The legal tampering window for 2017 NFL Free Agency opens today at 11:00 a.m. CT and that is when teams and free agents can do everything but sign on the dotted line. Between now and Thursday, there will likely be a handful of NFL Free Agents that reach verbal agreements with teams. Could one of those verbal agreements be between the Bears and free agent quarterback Mike Glennon?

The Bears have been heavily linked to Glennon over the course of the past week and those connections continue to grow stronger. Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported on Tuesday morning that the Bears are expected to make a major push for Glennon once the legal tampering window opens later today.

There has been speculation that the Bears’ reported interest in Glennon could be a smokescreen. The idea being that Glennon’s camp is using the Bears as negotiating ploy to drive up the price for a team like the New York Jets and Cleveland Browns. The issue with that is that teams like the Jets are shying away from Glennon because they feel he is signing with the Bears at a price that he is most certainly not worth.

The guess here is that Bears’ head coach John Fox is the driving force behind the team’s pursuit of Glennon. Fox needs a “win-now” option at the quarterback position in 2017 and he may have pegged Glennon is that option. Though, even that makes little sense considering Glennon does not represent as an upgrade over Brian Hoyer and the Bears can re-sign Hoyer for much less.

If the Chicago Bears sign Mike Glennon to the costs of $14 million or $15 million per season, they will deserve their distinction as the laughing stocks of the NFL.
