Braden Montgomery's MLB debut was already a large story, especially for the White Sox. But Montgomery made it catastrophic when he launched a walk off blast to win the game for his new team. The young outfielder became only the fifth player in MLB history to walk off with a home run in his debut.

It's uncommon for a new player to enter the league with a hit in their first at bat. Most players have at least a small adjustment period as they adapt to big-league pitching. Those that are lucky walk away with a hit or two. Those that are really lucky walk away with a home run under their belt. But it's only a rare handful that step into the box with the game on the line and pull through.

Braden Montgomery delivers a historic first impression

"I had no clue. I hit it and I thought that it at least got over his head, and so I was excited that at least we didn't lose. That was... I... that was... that left me speechless."

A very exasperated and excited Montgomery was all smiles when he was interviewed in the locker room post-game. If making your debut is a big day for a player, then Montgomery just managed to scale the moon. With the game on the line and the courtesy runner on second base, even a single means a run scores. Montgomery was ecstatic that he'd managed to tie the game up, let alone won it on a national stage.

Montgomery's ascension to the big leagues has been a long time coming. This marks yet another payoff from the game-breaking Crochet trade in 2025. White Sox fans have been on the edge of their seats waiting for this moment, and now that it's finally here, things seem surreal.

A debut like this doesn't guarantee stardom, but it certainly gets your attention. If Braden Montgomery is going to be a major part of the White Sox future, he couldn't have picked a much better way to introduce himself to Chicago.
