Tristan Peters has claimed an All-Star spot. He took the spot after Athletics first baseman Nick Kurtz went onto the injured list with a sprained right thumb. This comes as yet another milestone for Peters as he takes his tour of professional baseball this season. Peters has been excellent for the White Sox this year, contributing in a very real way to their success.
Through the first half of the season, Peters collected 37 runs on 75 hits, and he drove in 36 RBIs. He also posted an impressive .301 batting average with a .832 OPS. After starting only four games with Tampa Bay in 2025, getting designated for assignment only to be traded to Chicago where he then narrowly makes the All-Star game? Any player would take that. The Rays are probably kicking dirt right now every time they hear Peters' name.
Will Venable has seen Tristan Peters exceed every expectation
"He kind of came out of nowhere, right? We liked him, obviously, enough to acquire him. He's exceeded expectations, and he's done it in a way that it's really neat for a guy who has worked so hard."Will Venable, White Sox manager
Venable's comments point out just how meteoric Peters' rise has been. The White Sox took a chance on him, and it's now seemingly paying off. Venable was adamant to start the season off that there were no expectations to take the division, but rather the team will be taking things one game at a time, and focusing their efforts on the development of the players. Little did they know that it would also mean being tied for the division and holding a firm grasp on third place in the American League.
Peters is 26 years old, and hardly done with is baseball career. But there were many moments during his rise from the Savannah Bananas to the MLB All-Star team where he thought he wouldn't make it. The MLB farm system can be a grind for everyone who isn't a top tier talent, and many excellent ball players never make it to the show. That's why it's so impressive for Peters to not only be regularly enjoying field time, but to also be named an All-Star. It's a big deal.
Few expected Peters to become an All-Star when the White Sox acquired him. After the season he's put together, it would be hard to argue there was anyone more deserving of the honor.
