The Chicago Bears are fighting for the No. 2 seed in Week 18, as playoff seeding is still up for grabs in Week 18. They are focused on their matchup against the Detroit Lions on Sunday, but other moves are happening around the league.

On Tuesday, the Dallas Cowboys released cornerback Trevon Diggs, per ESPN's Todd Archer. Shortly after his release, he spoke with NFL Network's Jane Slater, expressing that he's healthy and looking to join a team that needs another piece for the playoffs.

And while there's no indication that the Bears will have an interest in potentially adding Diggs, he could be an interesting lottery ticket for Chicago to think about.

Trevon Diggs Could Be an Intriguing Late Season Addition for Bears

This year, Chicago has already hit on two lottery tickets in the secondary. On Oct. 29, the Bears signed defensive back C.J. Gardner-Johnson to a one-year deal, and he's been an effective player for them in the secondary. In nine games, he has 45 total tackles, five QB hits, three sacks, and four pass deflections.

In addition to that, Nahshon Wright signed a one-year deal with Chicago after spending time in Dallas and Minnesota as a backup. Despite that, he was thrown into the starting lineup and answered the call with the second-most interceptions in the NFL (5). The Bears haven't shied away from taking chances in the secondary, which is why Diggs could be an interesting fit.

An underrated factor to consider is that Al Harris is Chicago's defensive backs coach & defensive pass game coordinator. He held that same role in Dallas, where he and Diggs crossed paths.

Under Harris' coaching, Diggs had the best years of his career, that included two Pro Bowls and one All-Pro selection. During the 2021-22 seasons, he finished with 35 pass deflections, 14 interceptions. In 2021, he led the NFL with 11 interceptions and scored two defensive touchdowns.

Diggs was a ball hawk under Harris, but injuries took a toll over the past three years. While the Bears may not be looking to make moves at CB, they've shown they aren't afraid to take some gambles on players.

That approach worked out with Wright and Gardner-Johnson, so there's a chance it could work with Diggs as well. If he goes unclaimed on waivers, it likely wouldn't cost much to sign him at this point. On the flip side, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported any team that claimed the ex-Cowboys CB would be responsible for his remaining $472,222 guaranteed game check this season.

Teams would likely want to avoid that, but if the Bears wanted to bring him in, they could be willing to eat that money weekly. The Bears have been one of the best stories all season long and have shown they can match up with some of the best teams in the NFC.

The addition of Diggs could be another potential lottery ticket for a team that has cashed in on a couple in 2025. The playoffs are right around the corner, and Diggs is a name to watch leading into them.
