There will be plenty to see when the Chicago Bears take on the Cincinnati Bengals in the second week of the preseason. Who are the players with the most to gain this week?
5 Chicago Bears on Offense With Most to Gain in Preseason Week 2
Salvon AhmedÂ
Ahmed has been trending up significantly since the start of training camp. He was a winner of camp, then parlayed that into a great preseason performance. His catch-and-run for a touchdown was the highlight of the day. Still, Ben Johnson made it clear that Ahmed needs to find a role on special teams and improve in pass protection to make the team. So, this has to be what fans are watching for when he is on the field.Â
Kaden Davis
Davis and veteran Scotty Miller are in a strong competition for the sixth wide receiver spot. Davis has consistently made splash plays with Tyson Bagent and has a return background. His versatility can get him on the roster. Still, Bagent will not play this week. Can he have the same magic with Case Keenum?
Sam RoushÂ
The Bears are unlikely to play Colston Loveland or Cole Kmet much, if they play either one. So the rookie should start and get plenty of work. He should be a strong blocker coming out of college, but the transition is always going to take time. Beyond that, the Bears should try to see what he can provide in the passing game. He is not expected to do that much in the regular season.Â
Theo BenedetÂ
The left tackle competition continues. Now, all indications are that Benedet will get a chance to start at left tackle. Kiran Amegadjie and Jedrick Wills have moved over to the right side for the time being. Benedet started eight games in the role last year, and could easily make a run for starting in the last couple of weeks of the preseason.Â
All eyes will be on both tackle spots, but particularly Benedet at left tackle, because he has not spent much time there this summer.Â
Caden Barnett
The rookie UDFA from Wyoming still has a strong chance to make the team. The Bears are unlikely to play most of their starting offensive line, and if they do it will not be long. That should give Barnett another long look. Can he beat out Jordan McFadden and lock down the tenth offensive line spot?
