The Chicago Bears are getting closer to training camp. So, it is a good time to review the depth charts and see which positions are stronger than others entering the season.
Chicago Bears Roster Overview
Quaterback
Caleb Williams, Tyson Bagent, Case Keenum, Miller Moss
Keenum is likely to be the practice squad quarterback. Moss is going to look to put out good tape this summer.
Running back
D’Andre Swift, Kyle Monangai, Roschon Johnson, Brittain Brown, Salvon Ahmed, Coleman Bennett
The competition for the third running back behind Swift and Monangai is wide open. Johnson has a draft pick invested in him, Brown got work last year, but Bennett is the fresh face rookie UDFA.
Wide Receiver
Rome Odunze, Luther Burden, Kalif Raymond, Zavion Thomas, Scotty Miller, Jahdae Walker, Maurice Alexander, Omari Kelly, JP Richardson, Kyron Hudson, Kaden Davis
The top four receivers are locked in, but the last couple of spots are still open.
Tight End
Colston Loveland, Cole Kmet, Sam Roush, Nikola Kalinic, Stephen Carlson, Qadir Ismail, Hayden Large
The top three tight end spots are taken, but whether the Bears keep a fourth and who that is are up for debate.
Offensive Tackles
Braxton Jones, Ozzy Trapilo, Jedrick Wills, Darnell Wright, Theo Benedet, Mason Murphy, Kiran Amegadjie
Jones is the starter at left tackle heading into the year but he will be pushed. Both Wills and Benedet will get chances to start. Amegadjie is on the border of being released this offseason. Trapilo is unlikely to play due to injury.
Interior Offensive Line
Garrett Bradbury, Joe Thuney, Jonah Jackson, Luke Newman, Logan Jones, Jordan McFadden, Caden Barnett, Jaren Kump, Kyle Hergel
Their three starters are locked in. Newman should make the team after a promising rookie season. McFadden, Hergel and the rookie UDFA Barnett will compete for a final roster spot.
Edge Rusher
Montez Sweat, Austin Booker, Dayo Odeyingbo, Daniel Hardy, Shemar Turner, Jamree Kromah, Jonathan Garvin, Jeremiah Martin
Their top three are locked in, but the roster gets questionable after that. Can Hardy or Turner make noise as the fourth edge rusher? Can any other depth step up?
Interior Defensive Line
Gervon Dexter, Grady Jarrett, Neville Galimore, Kentavius Street, Jordan van den Berg, James Lynch, Jayden Loving
The top three names are locks to make the team, but the three names after will be competing to stick around this summer.
Linebacker
TJ Edwards, Devin Bush, D’Marco Jackson, Keyshaun Elliott, Ruben Hyppolite, Noah Sewell, Jack Sanborn, Jon Rhattigan, Nephi Sewell, Wayne Matthews
This is one of the deepest rooms. They have seven linebackers worthy of making the team. Hyppolite, Sewell and Sanborn will all compete for roster spots.
Cornerback
Jaylon Johnson, Kyler Gordon, Tyrique Stevenson, Terell Smith, Josh Blackwell, Malik Muhammad, Jaylon Jones, Dallis Flowers, KC Eziomume, Dontae Manning
Jaylon Jones is going to be on the roster border all summer. Will Muhammad get work in the slot or outside? The team also gets Terell Smith back healthy. He had been progressing before his injury last year.
Safety
Coby Bryant, Dillon Thieneman, Elijah Hicks, Cam Lewis, Gervarius Owens, Skyler Thomas, Anthony Johnson
The top four safeties should be locks. Can anyone step in and take a spot?
