Star WR Refuses to Consider Joining Bears Over Petty Grudge
By Cem Yolbulan
The Chicago Bears made a massive effort in the 2024 offseason to change their perception around the league. Not only did they draft an elite quarterback in Caleb Williams, but they also surrounded him with high-end talent.
Unfortunately, that didn't seem to work. Amidst an eight-game losing streak and a 4-10 record, the Bears are the laughingstocks of the NFL.
Many thought that star talent would flock to Chicago for an opportunity to play with Caleb Williams on a playoff contender. On Tuesday, one former Packers star mentioned that will not be the case, at least for him.
Pro Bowl receiver Davante Adams was a guest on Kay Adams' show and was asked whether he would play for the Bears. He gave a firm "no" and said he only has a few years left in the league and wouldn't want to spend them in Chicago.
Davante Adams Refuses To Play for the Chicago Bears
At first, this may not come as a big surprise. Adams is a beloved figure in Green Bay who spent eight seasons there and rose to stardom. Not wanting to play for a bitter rival is understandable. It's also true that the Bears don't actually need an overpaid wide receiver in his 30s.
At the same time, these remarks by Adams could suggest a deeper problem for the Bears. If Chicago looked like a playoff team with a functional offense, then veteran playmakers like Adams would almost certainly be more interested in joining.
An aging veteran who presumably wants to chase a Super Bowl win in the late stages of his career will naturally not be interested in a franchise that hasn't had a winning record since 2018.
Adams has two more years on his contract with the Jets. However, considering where that franchise is, he will likely be a trade candidate in the offseason. It's safe to say that the Bears will not be making his shortlist.
