The Chicago Bears are ushering in a new era of football in the Windy City with new head coach Ben Johnson. The former Detroit Lions offensive coordinator has the tough challenge of getting this team back to the playoffs and the top of the NFC North.
One of Johnson’s first tasks as head coach will be figuring out who they will take with the 10th overall pick. The Bears could go in multiple directions, targeting the offensive line or finding someone to pair Montez Sweat.
However, one position they don’t need to address is running back, as they have D’Andre Swift and Roschon Johnson.
Based on Ben Johnson’s background with the Lions, we should expect the Bears to run the ball, which should help Caleb Williams. That said, with Chicago sitting at No. 10 overall, former Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty should be available and would be an intriguing option to add to Johnson and Declan Doyle’s offense.
During Super Bowl week, the Heisman Trophy runner-up was on radio row and mentioned that the Bears are sitting in a nice spot at No. 10 overall. Jeanty said, “I think that might be a nice destination.”

If the Bears didn’t have Swift, whom they signed to a three-year, $24 million deal, Jeanty would be a fever dream for Chicago fans.
The former Boise State standout was not only the best running back in the country but was one of the best players in the entire country. This past season with the Broncos, Jeanty produced 2,601 rushing yards and 29 touchdowns on the ground on 374 carries.
He wasn’t featured much in the receiving game this season (23 receptions for 138 yards and a touchdown) but showed off his pass-catching prowess in 2023 as a sophomore (43 receptions for 569 yards and five touchdowns).
With the Bears needing to shore up that offensive line, Johnson and Co. will unlikely go after Jeanty at No.10. That said, the idea of Jeanty being Jahymr Gibbs in his offensive scheme in Chicago is tantalizing.
