Shocking Head Coaching Report Should Cost Ryan Poles His Job
The Chicago Bears are 4-3 on the year and are coming off the heels of a disaster of a loss to the Washington Commanders.
In Week 8, the Bears fell to the Commanders 18-15 on a Hail Mary pass as time expired. They will look to bounce back against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday but that loss wasn't an easy pill to swallow.
The pressure is on the Bears to right the ship and make a playoff push. Head coach Matt Eberflus is in his third season in Chicago, logging a 14-27 record. There was speculation surrounding his job security this offseason but Ryan Poles and company decided to bring him back. While they believed this was the right choice, the latest report highlights the Bears made a massive mistake.
Bears News: Ben Johnson Wanted Bears HC Gig
Senior NFL reporter Albert Breer was a guest on "Kap and J Hood" on Tuesday morning and he revealed the Detroit Lions offensive coordinator wanted the Bears head coaching job last coaching cycle.
"Ben Johnson looked at the Bears last year, that was the one he wanted."

If this report is true, GM Ryan Poles made a massive mistake not replacing Eberflus with Johnson.
The 38-year-old is one of the best offensive minds in the league and will have his choice of multiple head coaching gigs in 2025.
This season, the Lions are sixth in the NFL in total offense (385.1) and rushing offense (156.7) but 11th in passing offense (228.4). In addition, they are first in the NFL in points per game (33.4). The Lions have scored 40-plus points in three of the past four games.
Having an offensive mind like Johnson paired with Caleb Williams would have been a springboard to a competitive and exciting era of Chicago Bears football.
Instead, they decided to run it back with Eberflus, who has yet to show he's a winning NFL head coach. Who knows if the opportunity for Johnson to join Chicago will present itself again.
One thing that's clear as day is that Chicago fumbled the chance to bring in one of the hottest young coaches in the NFL. We'll have to see if this comes back to bite them but for right now, it doesn't look good for Poles.
Most people in his position would have pulled the trigger and brought in Johnson. He wanted to stand pat with Eberflus and that's certainly a choice.
