The injury situation surrounding Kyler Gordon is starting to become a problem for the Chicago Bears. Gordon and head coach Ben Johnson have never been able to get off on the right foot. However, now that the injuries are starting to mount for the former Ryan Poles draft pick, even his General Manager is starting to discuss the frustration.

Poles was clear to say that there was frustration on the side of the team, but also on the side of Gordon that he could not stay healthy. However, it is clear that Poles is siding with his coaching staff in saying that some of the issues are Gordon not toughing out minor issues.

When Ben Johnson was asked about Gordon, it did not take him long to mince words. He said that he needs to see Gordon get healthy. Nothing more and nothing less.
While it does appear to be simple for Gordon and the Bears, it has been anything but that. Gordon has typically been healthy, but has always had a few minor issues. He missed three games as a rookie, four games in his second year, and two more again in his third season.
However, the big issues came once Johnson became the head coach. Gordon only played in three games. Johnson continued to express frustration. The thought was that now that Gordon had an entire offseason, he could be healthy.
However, he was not healthy enough to be a full participant in OTAs. More than that, he is entering the year on the Physically Unable to Perform list.
It is starting to feel that Gordon might never be healthy enough to play under Johnson. The Bears are going to give Josh Blackwell and rookie Malik Muhammad the opportunities to take his job. However, if Gordon is healthy, right now the job would remain his.
The Bears can save just over $8.3M in cap space this offseason if they let go of Gordon. Based on how his second season under Johnson is starting, it is hard to see Gordon coming back for his third. So, the team might also be quick to shut him down and move onto the next one if they feel he is not rehabbing quickly enough.
A situation for a strong draft pick that was extended by the team is not going to end as well as many projected.
