Rome Odunze gets bold fantasy prediction as Bears hype shifts elsewhere

Rome Odunze has slowly become a forgotten name when discussing the Chicago Bears' skill players. However, fantasy football analyst Hayden Winks of Yahoo Sports wants to set things straight. He is declaring Rome Odunze as a player who will finish in the top 20 when it comes to wide receivers in fantasy football. Right now, he is getting drafted as the 28th receiver, so Winks is projecting a buying opportunity.

Winks notes that the Bears offense has high upside, and even though other young names are drawing attention, the targets that D.J. Moore leaves the offense with give him a chance to be a great bet in fantasy football.

Things have not gone the way that Odunze wanted them to through two seasons. However, the underlying numbers remain strong.

After his rookie season, it was clear that the quarterback and the offense were the issues. Odunze had talent. When the playcalling and quarterback improved, Odunze saw some success. As Winks noted, he was 18th best in usage and 22nd best in targets.

The issue is that he was not fully healthy, and he started to see his efficiency drop. His catch rate was down from 53.5% to 45.6%. He also saw his yards per target stay the same at 7.3.

Still, he did see an uptick in yards per game. He is up from 43.2 yards per game to 55.1. The issue is that the injuries caused him to only play in 12 games. Had he played a full season, he could have built on his rookie season.

Now, he went from 734 yards as a rookie to 661 in year two. That is why it is easy to sleep on him.

Beyond that, the loss of Moore is overshadowed by the emergence of Luther Burden and Colston Loveland. Both played well to close the season, and both of them have seen plenty of preseason hype.

So, while the noise is centered on those two, it is easy to forget about Odunze, who was a ninth overall pick himself.

Odunze is healthy. The offense is a fit and much better for him to produce more. Young names could step into his target share, but the team also opened more chances for him. More than anything, he is being underdiscussed and underrated. This is a good player to buy.
