Press Taylor knows better than most that second chances in the NFL are never guaranteed. From Jacksonville to Chicago, Taylor is trying his hand again in the driver seat of the offense. After the way his tenure in Jacksonville ended, one could argue that the time between coordinator jobs might be a bit longer, but obviously Ben Johnson sees something in Taylor that the Bears can use to better their offense.

I think the greatest thing about being here is the staff, the people around me that I'm working with, the offensive line coach, the receiver coaches. I mean, I could go up and down our entire list of offensive coaches that I get a chance to work with. And then just being here, being a part of this organization, the alignment from top to bottom, from Ryan through Ben, throughout the coaching staff, the support staff around here, it's been incredible. Taylor came into the organization through Doug Pederson during his time in Philadelphia. There, Taylor rose through the ranks all the way up to passing game coordinator. The Eagles finished 4-11-1 in 2020, and though it was reported that Pederson wished to promote Taylor to OC following the season, the Eagles decided to fire the entire passing staff.
Following a brief stint with the Colts in which Taylor worked with then head coach Frank Reich in 2021, Taylor reunited with Pederson to become the OC in Jacksonville where he split play calling duties. Things went well for a while but the Jaguars famously collapsed under Pederson. Following the 2024 season, Pederson and Taylor were both no longer a part of the Jaguars organization.
That's how Taylor came to the Bears. He spent 2025 as the passing game coordinator, and following the departure of Declan Doyle to the Ravens, Ben Johnson saw fit to promote Taylor to OC. It's not a chance that should be taken lightly, and Taylor's comments show that he clearly understands the fortunate position he now finds himself.
Taylor's experience working with quarterbacks is where he's strongest. Having him as a key member of Caleb Williams' development didn't happen by accident. Taylor has worked with some seriously successful quarterbacks in his career. From Carson Wentz and Jalen Hurts to Trevor Lawrence and now Caleb Williams, the man is no stranger to talent. Lawrence is particularly important here because that's another case of developing a former first overall pick.
Coach Johnson and the Bears quarterbacks coach JT Barrett already have a well organized program for Williams in place, and Taylor has been a key part of it from the start. Taylor may not know how many more opportunities like this will come around, but he has landed in an ideal situation to make this one count. If his experience can play even a small role in helping Williams reach his ceiling, the Bears will be glad Johnson gave Taylor his second chance.
