Yannick Ngakoue Clears Up Injury Concerns After Going Unsigned
Although the bulk of major offseason moves have already been made with the draft in the rearview mirror, there's still a few notable players available on the free-agent market. That includes EDGE Yannick Ngakoue, who played the 2023 for the Chicago Bears.
Without a deal in hand yet, Ngakoue has taken matters into his own hands.
The former Pro Bowler posted a video to his Twitter account that shows him working out, with an emphasis on his surgically repaired right ankle. He even captioned the clip, "What ankle ?" to further drive the point home.
It's obvious Ngakoue wants prospective teams to not be worried about his broken ankle, which sidelined him for the final four contests of the 2023 campaign. He then required surgery, but he's showing no signs of being slowed down coming off of a major injury.
Maybe this bit of self-promotion will help Ngakoue catch on with a contender after the draft. It was only two years ago Ngakoue posted a 10-sack campaign, and he went for 9.5 in 2022. Even his 4.0 sacks in 2023 -- while missing four games -- showed he's still got some left in the tank.
Ngakoue could certainly help any squad's pass-rushing attack, but a down year, plus a big injury and now turning 29 years old, likely is playing into his colder-than-expected market.
Chicago should absolutely consider a reunion while the rest of the league sleeps on the vet. He was No. 3 on the team in sacks last year, and his knowledge of the system should allow him to remain productive.
If he comes at a discount, that's even better for Chicago as it hopes for a return to the playoffs.
