White Sox Invite Three-Time All-Star to Spring Training
The 2024 MLB season is right around the corner. The Chicago White Sox are down at Camelback Ranch in Glendale, Arizona for Spring Training as they prepare for the upcoming season.
The White Sox announced they have signed Mike Moustakas to a minor-league deal. He's in camp as a non-roster invitee to Spring Training. There are no guarantees that Moustakas will be on the roster on Opening Day but he has an opportunity to make a positive statement.
Moustakas has a unique connection with general manager Chris Getz, who was his teammate with the Kansas City Royals from 2011-2013. He also has some familiarity with manager Pedro Grifol from Kansas City as well.
Moustakas looks to make a roster for the 14th straight season but will have his work cut out for him. The injury bug has slammed the 35-year-old over the past five years. He hasn't played more than 78 games since 2020.
The California native had his best seasons with the Royals, notching two All-Star game appearances while also securing a World Series title in 2015.
Across his 13-year career, Moustakas played for the Royals, Milwaukee Brewers, Cincinnati Reds, Colorado Rockies, and the Los Angeles Angels. He's compiled 215 home runs, 683 RBIs, and 274 doubles. His career slash line is .247/.307/.431.
The White Sox have Andrew Vaughn, Lenyn Sosa, and Yoan Moncada manning the infield but Moustakas can carve out a role as a veteran bat coming off the bench who can rotate as a corner infielder.
