Bears veteran offensive tackle Larry Borom was carted off the field with an injury during Thursday night's preseason win over the Kansas City Chiefs.

Entering his fourth season with the franchise, Borom has appeared in 39 games with 23 starts. He projects as a swing tackle behind a revamped offensive line in 2024, and his injury reduces depth at an already thin position group.

Originally a fifth-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft out of Missouri, Borom has spent his whole career in Chicago to this point.

Bears News: OT Larry Borom Suffers Preseason Injury

Head coach Matt Ebeflus told the media after the game that Borom was among multiple players who would need further evaluation, including Douglas Coleman III, who was taken to a local hospital following a scary injury that required him to be taken off the field on a backboard.

For Borom, his leg injury comes at a brutal time. He'd seemingly established himself as the primary backup behind Braxton Jones and Darnell Wright, part of a group that expects to take a step forward after a disappointing handful of seasons.

The Bears won the game 34-21 to cap off an undefeated preseason. They'll start the Caleb Williams era at home against the Tennessee Titans on September 8, though it's not yet clear if Borom will be available or miss an extended period of time.

Borom could be a cut candidate, though his years of experience with the organization and ability to play both tackle positions likely mean his spot is secure. If the injury is significant, Borom could also be placed on the Injured Reserve list and return at some point this season without taking up a roster spot in the meantime.
