Former Chicago White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson is one of the many notable free agents still unsigned with Spring Training underway across the country.

Anderson had a difficult 2023 season, where he struggled mightily at the plate. The two-time All-Star infielder slashed .245/.286/.296 with one home run and 25 RBI (123 games). With his offensive production taking a noticeable dip, Anderson hasn’t much interest in the free agent market.

However, it looks like one team wants to take a chance on the former White Sox infielder this season.

White Sox Rumors: Marlins Made Offer to Tim Anderson

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reported Friday that the Miami Marlins have recently made an offer to Anderson. Rosenthal adds that the Marlins currently have Jon Berti as the leading option at shortstop. However, the team has been in contact with other free-agent shortstops, including Adalberto Mondesi.

After the 2023 season ended, the White Sox declined the 30-year-old Anderson’s $14 million club option and gave him a $1 million buyout.

Rosenthal interestingly wrote that Anderson “signaled a willingness in free agency to play either second or third.” It’s good to see the 30-year-old willing to change positions after playing second base in the World Baseball Classic last year.

The Marlins aren’t a bad team, as they made the playoffs last season, making this a good spot for Anderson to get back to an All-Star level.
