The Chicago Bears finally pulled off the expected and moved on from Justin Fields to open the door for their next franchise quarterback in the 2024 NFL Draft. Perhaps the return for Fields wasn't what some Bears fans had in mind, but the important thing is the new era in Chicago has officially started.

It is all but guaranteed that the Bears will select Caleb Williams with their first overall pick. The USC standout is widely considered the best QB prospect in the draft and the Bears are already looking forward to having him in Chicago.

One former high draft pick and now media head wasn't as excited about that prospect as some. Robert Griffin III said last week that he thought Williams should refuse to play for Chicago like Eli Manning did back in 2004 with the Chargers.

Ryan Poles Infuriated With RGIII's Caleb Williams Comments

The former Washington Commanders star has a few valid points. The Bears don't have the best track record of developing quarterbacks.

However, it ignores the fact that the Bears' top brass has made significant changes over the last few years. That is why general manager Ryan Poles was infuriated with RGIII's statements.

Ever since Poles was hired back in 2022, he has been making an effort to transform the culture of the organization and the narrative surrounding it. He spent the entire offseason surrounding the new quarterback with offensive talents such as Keenan Allen, D'Andre Swift, and Gerald Everett.

From this perspective, it's understandable why Poles would be frustrated. But this saga also underlines how far the Bears have to go to erase the mistakes of the past that shaped the perception in people's minds.
