Ryan Poles Admits Making Mistake During Justin Fields Trade Talks
The Chicago Bears have been one of the most aggressive teams in the offseason to improve the roster. They have signed D'Andre Swift, Gerald Everett, Kevin Byard, and traded for Keenan Allen.
The biggest question mark was surrounding the quarterback position but the Bears decided to trade Justin Fields to the Pittsburgh Steelers for a 2025 sixth-round pick that can turn into a fourth-rounder depending on play time.
The Bears certainly received less than they thought in return for Fields and GM Ryan Poles talked about it at the owners' meetings down in Orlando, Florida.
He said, "I was a little bit surprised. But as you do research and we have conversations you have to kind of adjust to the market... if you look at the beginning, there are probably teams that are looking at the draft for guys to fill in. On the back end, playoff teams probably have someone in place. So really it was a smaller pool of teams."
Chicago News: Ryan Poles Admits He Was Surprised By Justin Fields Trade Market
Many people, including those inside the Bears organization, thought Fields would have had more interest in the trade market but that never really materialized.
Teams around the league were either looking at the draft or other veteran options around the NFL to fill that void at quarterback.
Yes, there are some questions surrounding Fields but the 25-year-old signal-caller has the talent to play in this league.
Regardless teams didn't want to give up a high draft pick for the former Ohio State standout and the Bears only received a day 3 pick.
Nonetheless, Chicago has made a flurry of moves but they still aren't getting much love from oddsmakers. The Bears are currently third (+350) in the NFC North in terms of odds of winning the division according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
