Rome Odunze Injury Suddenly Pops Up After Bears' Week 1 Game
By Jovan Alford
The Chicago Bears pulled off an incredible second-half comeback in Week 1, to secure a 24-17 win over the Tennessee Titans. It wasn’t a clean game by the Bears’ offense, but thankfully the defense and special teams units stepped up.
Speaking of the Bears’ offense, much of the attention was on rookie quarterback Caleb Williams, who was making his regular-season debut. However, rookie wide receiver Rome Odunze was almost making his debut.
The former University of Washington standout didn’t do much in Sunday’s game, recording one reception (four targets) for 11 yards. But there’s a slight concern about his playing status for next week’s game against the Houston Texans.
According to Kevin Fishbain of The Athletic, the rookie wide receiver is getting an MRI on his knee on Monday, per Bears head coach Matt Eberflus.
Eberflus told reporters that he didn’t know when the injury happened, but believed it was on a blocking play, according to ESPN’s Courtney Cronin. The Bears head coach added that it was brought up to him during the game and said, “I don’t have enough information there. We’ll see on Wednesday.”
If you are a Bears fan, this isn’t the news you wanted to hear coming out of Week 1. Most fans were concerned about Keenan Allen and DJ Moore’s health, but both wide receivers are okay.
As for Odunze, a knee injury is tricky as it could be a strain or sprain and each has its level of severity, which determines how long he could be out. The Bears hope it’s none of the above as they have big plans for the rookie this season.
