New Bears Playmaker Suddenly Lands on Injury List
The Chicago Bears have been one of the most improved teams this offseason. General manager Ryan Poles made it his mission to add an abundance of playmakers, especially on the offensive end.
The Bears signed D'Andre Swift, Gerald Everett, and Kevin Byard in free agency before adding Caleb Williams and Rome Odunze in the NFL Draft. They also traded for Keenan Allen back in March as they reshaped their offense.
Now with training camp officially underway, one of these playmakers will begin the summer on an injured list.
Bears News: Gerald Everett Will Begin Training Camp on Injured List
According to Kevin Fishbain of the Athletic, the Bears are placing tight end Gerald Everett on the non-football injury list. That means the injury was suffered outside of the team facilities.
The first practice is going to be on July 20 but Everett won't be participating. Back in March, he signed a two-year, $12 million deal with $6 million guaranteed.
He is an athletic pass catcher who can do some damage in the open space. In seven seasons, Everett has 284 receptions for 2,833 receiving yards, and 19 touchdowns.
The 30-year-old will form a nice tight-end duo with Cole Kmet. This isn't the ideal start for a player on a new team but things happen.
What matters the most is being ready for the Week 1 home opener against the Tennessee Titans. Everett is a veteran so he'll be up to speed even if he isn't on the field to start camp. Hopefully, he can get onto the field soon and start building a connection with Williams.
