Latest Bears Trade Rumor Centers Around Moving No. 9 Pick
By Jovan Alford
The Chicago Bears are in a unique position heading into the 2024 NFL Draft as they have two picks within the top 10 of the first round. After having a good free agency period, the Bears can get two impact players to make them formidable contenders in the NFC North.
The Bears are expected to take USC quarterback Caleb Williams with the No. 1 pick. However, there isn’t a consensus on what Chicago will do with the No. 9 pick.
Chicago has been rumored to take Brock Bowers or Rome Odunze at that spot, or the Bears could use the No. 9 overall pick to trade back and acquire more draft capital as they only have a third and fourth-round pick.
With only three days until the start of the NFL draft, the Bears could take the latter option with their second pick in the first round.
Bears Rumors: Chicago Could Trade Back in First Round
Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer reported on Monday “other teams have gotten the sense that Chicago will try to move down given their dearth of picks on Day 2 (1) and Day 3 (2).”
It makes sense that the Bears want to move down given the circumstances of not having a bunch of draft capital to upgrade multiple spots on their roster. Various teams will look to move up to No. 9 if they see one of the top wide receivers still on the board or Bowers sitting there for the taking.
The Bears do not need to take a wide receiver at No. 9 or TE as they have Keenan Allen, DJ Moore, Cole Kmet, and Gerald Everett. However, Chicago could use a star-studded pass rusher to play opposite Montez Sweat.
At the same time, this year’s draft class is solid on the edge and has talent across the board that Chicago could get in the later rounds. It will be interesting to see how the draft unfolds Thursday night as the Bears will be watching to see what other teams do around them before it gets back to them at No. 9 overall.
