Latest Bears Injury Update is Terrible News for Caleb Williams
By Jovan Alford
The Chicago Bears offense hasn’t got off to a good start this season after it was expected that they would take off with rookie quarterback Caleb Williams.
Chicago is ranked 18th in scoring (18.5 points per game) and a disappointing 32nd in passing (99 yards per game) through two weeks. However, the good news for the Bears offense is that they have a much more favorable matchup against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.
But they will be missing one of their top playmakers, which isn’t great news for Williams, who is still trying to figure out the NFL.
According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, veteran wide receiver Keenan Allen was ruled out for Sunday’s game with a heel injury. Meanwhile, rookie wideout Rome Odunze has no injury designation and will play.
Odunze suffered a knee injury in Week 1 against the Tennessee Titans. The rookie wideout was listed as questionable in Week 2 but still played against the Houston Texans.
However, when it comes to Allen, he will be missing his second-straight game because of a heel injury that he suffered in Week 1.
In the regular season opener against the Titans, the 32-year-old wideout had four receptions (11 targets) for 29 yards. It was a disappointing debut for Allen, who was expected to play a huge role in the Bears’ offense.
That said, without Allen for the second-straight game, the Bears will hope that Williams can get on the same page with D.J. Moore and Odunze. Moore played well last week against Houston, recording six receptions (10 targets) for 53 yards.
As for Odunze, he only had two receptions (five targets) for 33 yards. Chicago’s offense will face a Colts defense that has only allowed 163 passing yards per game (ninth-fewest in the NFL).
It doesn’t look great on paper for the Bears, but with the Colts banged up on the defensive line, maybe Williams and the offense can finally find their groove.
