Former GM Makes Outlandish Statement About Jordan Love

ESPN analyst and former Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum went a little too far with his praise of Love this week.

Halfway through last season, everyone and their mother was calling Jordan Love a bust as the Packers were 3-6 and Love had 10 interceptions.

Now we’re supposed to believe he’s the second-best quarterback in the league? Bears fans like yourself must be rolling their eyes.

Former Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum said this week on ESPN that aside from Patrick Mahomes, “There is nobody on the planet I’d rather have than Jordan Love. Period. End of sentence.”

Jordan Love Isn't Even a Top 5 QB

Love had an impressive second half of last season, but since when are we glorifying quarterbacks for half a season of good football?

Though his second-half numbers were eye-popping (18 TDs to 1 INT), he faded in the playoffs as he threw for less than 200 yards and 2 INTs in a 24-21 loss to the 49ers.

Here are a few other quarterbacks who I’d rather have to build an NFL instead: Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, Justin Herbert, C.J. Stroud, and Brock Purdy.

Go ahead and find a ranking of NFL QBs in which Love is even close to being Top 5 in the league. You can’t.

Here is where Love ranks in some lists from popular media outlets.

Love is an impressive and exciting young quarterback, but can we pump the brakes a little bit on the hype train?

But let's consider the source a little bit before we get too worked up.

Tannenbaum was the GM of the Jets from 2006-12 when the team had these quarterbacks start games: Chad Pennington, Kellen Clemens, Brett Favre, Mark Sanchez, and Greg McElroy.

Maybe he should leave the quarterback analysis to other NFL commentators.
