Cubs Decide to Bring Up a Top Prospect to the Majors
The Chicago Cubs have their opening series against the defending champion Texas Rangers. They lost the first game 4-3 on Mar. 28 but they are already looking down at their farm system.
Per MLB Insider Robert Murray of Fansided, they are calling up right-handed pitcher Ben Brown from Triple-A. According to MLBPipeline, Brown is the No. 10 overall prospect in the Cubs farm system.
Cubs News: Ben Brown Is Being Called Up to the Majors
Brown will likely take the place of Justin Steele, who was placed on the 15-day injured list after suffering a hamstring injury on Opening Day.
With a void in the pitching rotation, Brown may be able to step right in. He was selected in the 33rd round of the 2017 MLB Amateur Draft and has spent time in the minors as both a starting and relieving pitcher.
The 24-year-old spent parts of last season in both Double-A and Triple-A. He went 8-8 with an ERA of 4.27 ERA and made 19 starts.
Brown got the attention of coaches and management after a stellar Spring Training. He put a staggering 0.64 ERA across five games and two starts. He only gave up one run in 14 innings while piling up 12 strikeouts.
The news of Brown being called up is exciting for Cubs fans and could have a positive impact on the team. According to FanDuel Sportsbook, Chicago has the second-best odds at +210 to win the NL Central, only trailing the St. Louis Cardinals. Head over there now to lock in these odds and back the Cubs.
