Chicago Bears 7-Round Mock Draft: Strengthening the Defensive Front
5. Cooper Beebe (114th Overall)
Do you know anyone who buys new shoes, but they are the same brand as the old ones? That is what this pick feels like after the Bears released Cody Whitehair. Whitehair was a much higher pick as he was drafted in the second round, but Beebe likely will not fall as far as he did in this mock. He was one of the better guards in the nation last year for the Wildcats.
Beebe has a ton of experience with over 3,000 total snaps across the offensive line. He has shorter arms so projects best at guard or center at the next level. He did not play center at Kansas State, but was reported to have practiced the position in case it was needed.
The health of Teven Jenkins and Nate Davis is not exactly something to place all your chips in on so Beebe can be a quality depth piece that can be eventually groomed into a starter.
PFF ranked Beebe their 4th overall guard with a rating of 83.9 last season. He is an elite pass blocker at the position, but may not be as dominant at the next level with the shorter arms. He was named a First-team AP All-American last season on top of winning the Big 12 Offensive Lineman of the Year Award.
