Caleb Williams Has No Excuse in Week 1 After Latest Titans Injury
By Cem Yolbulan
If you are a Bears fan, you have likely seen the stat that rookie quarterbacks haven't won a Week 1 game since Sam Darnold in 2018. They are 0-7-1 in the meantime, giving some ammunition to Caleb Williams' pessimists ahead of his NFL debut.
There are a few reasons to not read too much into it. First, it is a small sample size of only eight games. Second, none of those quarterbacks are as good as Williams. Third, the Bears are playing a depleted Titans defense that has no chance of slowing down Chicago's dynamic passing offense.
The Titans are dealing with injuries to key defenders to start the season. Defensive ends TK McLendon Jr. and Marlon Davidson, and linebackers Garret Wallow and Cedric Gray are starting the season on the injured reserve list. Another linebacker Otis Reese IV was already ruled out due to concussion. The latest injury further complicates things for Titans HC Brian Callahan.
NBC Sports Chicago's Josh Schrock reported that the Titans have ruled out safety Jamal Adams for Week 1.

Former All-Pro safety was one of the major additions to the Titans' secondary this offseason but he isn't off to a good start with his new team. Tennessee will continue to rely on Amani Hooker and Quandre Diggs at safety while their new star acquisition L'Jarius Sneed starts at one of the cornerback spots.
The Bears, however, have too many weapons for this short-handed Titans to deal with. In addition to Cole Kmet and DJ Moore, Chicago drafted Rome Odunze and brought in Keenan Allen and D'Andre Swift to put together one of the most dynamic offensive units in the league.
Tennessee's injury troubles are perhaps reflected in the betting odds for the game. On FanDuel Sportsbook, the Bears are -196 favorites to come out victorious in Week 1.
