Caleb Williams Already Breaking Promise to Fellow Bears Rookie
By Cem Yolbulan
The Chicago Bears had a disappointing showing against the Houston Texans on Sunday Night Football, especially on the offensive end. After a solid start to the game, Caleb Williams completely fell apart in the second half, finishing the game with 174 yards, two interceptions, and seven sacks.
Combined with the poor performance in Week 1 against the Titans, this is not the start Caleb Williams had in mind. In fact, his confidence was evident in the text he sent to rookie punter Tory Taylor. According to The Athletic's Kevin Fishbain, he had told Taylor that he wasn't "going to put too much here".
Bears News: Caleb Williams Can't Keep His Promise to P Tory Taylor
That has obviously not been the case as it has been pointed out on social media as Taylor punted 12 times in two games.
At the same time, Taylor's punting has been one of the bright spots for the Bears through two games. The best of his position in the country last year, Taylor was drafted in the fourth round, becoming the highest-selected punter since 2019. He has proven why with perfectly long and accurate punts.
Williams, on the other hand, hasn't kept his end of the bargain. However, he will get an excellent opportunity to turn the ship around in the next four games until Chicago's bye week. The Bears play the Colts, Rams, Panthers, and the Jaguars with three out of four in Soldier Field. If Williams can't carry this offense to a couple of convincing wins, it will officially be the time to start panicking.
