The Chicago Bears are ushering in a new era of football this season after moving on from Justin Fields and selecting former USC QB Caleb Williams as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Williams, who had a decorated collegiate career, which included a Heisman Trophy at USC, will be under intense scrutiny and pressure in the NFL. When Williams throws his first interception, the haters will try to down the rookie, but when he plays well those doubters will be nowhere to be found.

Before Williams went first overall in the draft, there was a narrative that the former USC star was a prima donna and high-maintenance.

Williams’ new teammates in Chicago caught wind of those things and didn’t like how some of the media was painting him out to be something he wasn’t.

Bears defensive end DeMarcus Walker expressed this feeling on Tuesday at training camp and told reporters that Williams “is a good kid and the sky is the limit for him,” per Zack Pearson of BearReport.com.

If you are a Bears fan, you must be excited to hear Williams’ teammates sticking up for him, given that he’s only a rookie. It shows that Williams’ leadership skills are making an impression on the vets.

For the Bears to get where they want to be this season, it will take Williams to play as C.J. Stroud did with the Houston Texans last season. The rookie QB can do this as he has a lot of good pieces surrounding him on offense.

That being said, Williams will have his growing pains like all rookies do starting their careers. However, if the former USC signal-caller can limit those ‘growing pains’ and has more stellar performances, the Bears will be one of the surprise stories in the NFL this season.
